The Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) was formed to provide the Atlantic Beach Police Department the ability to address emerging crime trends and problem areas. CSU allows the department to direct resources to a specific problem without diverting Patrol Officers from responding to calls for service.
The philosophy of the CSU is that crime can be deterred from occurring through highly proactive enforcement and through directed enforcement following creative problem oriented policing strategies. They routinely investigate the following types of crimes, but are not limited to: illegal drug activity, prostitution, alcohol violations, chronic crimes, weapons violations, and public nuisances.
Members assigned to the CSU are available to provide education to the community related to the identification and recognition of drugs and the signs and symptoms associated with their use, and to educate the public about drugs in our community.
If you would like to make a complaint about drugs, prostitution, or any other illicit activity, please email Commander David Cameron or call 904-247-5859.
Commander David Cameron oversees the Emergency Management Unit for the City of Atlantic Beach. Various members of our agency serve in specialized units when mobilized during a disaster.
Visit the City's Emergency Preparedness page for more specific information and ways you can be prepared.
The Detectives assigned to the General Investigations Unit (GIU) conduct investigations on a wide range of crimes, including robbery, assaults, sex crimes, domestic violence, theft, burglary, fraud, identity theft, and vandalism.
GIU Detectives spend many hours following up on information, pursuing leads, conducting interviews, and solving crimes. They file cases against criminals and work in close cooperation with the State Attorney's office for successful prosecution.
Our GIU Detectives also complete crime scene investigations. They are in charge of securing the crime scene and reconstructing the crime scene. They also process the crime scene which includes collecting, preserving, and analyzing evidence.
The GIU is supervised by Lead Detective Carl Johnston.
If you have any questions regarding an investigation, please contact our General Investigations Unit at 904-247-5859.
The Property and Evidence Section is in charge of storing all items of evidence, as well as found or abandoned property recovered by the Atlantic Beach Police Department. Any unclaimed, lost, or abandoned property is held for ninety days before being disposed. Unclaimed evidence is held for ninety days after disposition of the case. If not claimed, we may auction it online, convert it to city use, or destroy it. Any items considered contraband are destroyed in accordance with Florida State Statute.
