As of Jan. 1, 2024, the State of Florida and the City of Atlantic Beach will enforce the new 8th edition, 2023 Florida Building Code (FBC). All permit packages submitted on or after Jan. 1 are required to be designed based on the FBC 8th edition. This will include all expired permits that require a new permit.
Please note that all building permits (i.e. remodeling, roofs, driveways, windows/doors, pools, sheds, fences, etc.) require final inspections. The final inspection assures you that the work is meeting the safety requirements established in the Florida building codes. Final inspections protect your family by ensuring the project is done safely and correctly.
The City is working on updating our building permitting software. In an effort to make the transition to a new system, we are working hard to close out all building permits that did not schedule the inspections. After six months of inactivity, the building permit expires. We want to help you to ensure the construction is done correctly and we are contacting properties to get these expired permits resolved.
