In the fall, the orbits and alignment of the earth, moon and sun combine to produce some of the greatest tidal ranges of the year with exceptionally high water levels. We typically expect minor local nuisance flooding in low lying areas and impacts to the performance of our drainage system when high tide levels exceed 2.2 feet. This year, tide levels exceeding 2.2 feet are predicted to occur:
Aug 28th – Sep 4th
Sep 25th – Oct 3rd
Oct 25th – Nov 1st
Nov 25th – Nov 28th
If these higher than normal tides occur during heavy rains or a northeaster, tide heights could be substantially higher than predicted.
