Lifeguard Station Reconstruction/Replacement

The lifeguard station at 1 Ahern St. is in need of construction and remodeling due to water leaks, growth of the lifeguard staff, and expansion of lifeguard services.

Staff has identified an existing City of Jacksonville contract with ACON Construction that provides design-build services for parks and recreation facilities in Duval County.  Staff has met with the owner of ACON and discussed the scope and services to be provided and staff feels that this will be an efficient and cost-effective way to complete the renovation of the COAB Lifeguard station.  On April 10, 2023, the City Commission granted authorization for the Mayor and City Manager to execute a contract for design-build services from ACON Construction using the conceptual renderings provided by city staff.

Funding for this project was obtained from the City of Jacksonville, through Section 12.25 of its Ordinance 2021-504-E which authorized direct contracting and remodeling of the lifeguard station and will provide funding not to exceed the amount of $562,500. Additional funds for the project may be available through the Better Jacksonville Plan or the Duval County Tourist Development Council.
