Woods2by3_thumb.jpg

Carolyn was born in Miami and raised along Florida’s east coast from the Gold Coast to the Space Coast.  After her graduation from Orono High School in Maine she returned to Florida to attend college. As graduates of University of Florida she and husband Jeff are both Florida Gators, but remain proud of their children Madelyn, a Boston University Terrier & Hiatt a Florida State Seminole.

Carolyn Woods has been active and involved in the community since moving to Atlantic Beach in 1987.  While raising her family here, she has been active in the local public schools, serving in various positions on PTAs, Friends of Atlantic Beach Elementary, Theatre and Lacrosse Boosters and in the classrooms.  Her commitment to the arts is highlighted as an early and strong supporter of our local Atlantic Beach Experimental Theatre in addition to our expanding cultural arts programs throughout our city parks.  Carolyn continued her community service by serving as Chair of the Tree Board and two terms on the Community Development Board.

As a landscape architect with her own firm Carolyn was able to work on many commercial and civil projects creating designs for everything from private residences to interstate interchanges throughout Duval County and the U.S.  Some of her familiar projects are the Mayport Rd. Flyover, State Rd. 9-A, and The Twin Lakes Academy Schools.  Carolyn currently owns and manages several local rental properties and is very familiar with property ownership and real estate tax issues.  You might recognize some residential homes here in Atlantic Beach constructed while she was president and CEO of JACC Builders during the 1990’s.

Carolyn’s focus as a city commissioner is her commitment to serve the community at large and her belief that government’s role in our lives is to promote and protect the public health, safety and welfare. Carolyn guides her decisions on fiscal issues, legislation and strategic planning by understanding that our quality of life in Atlantic Beach is based on keeping our infrastructure sound, our parks active and our streets safe.
