Louis "Mike" Borno, Jr.
Mayor-Commissioner
Born in Nashville, Indiana, Mike grew up in Bloomington, Indiana. Enlisted in the United States Navy in 1955 and Retired as an LDO (Deck) LCDR in 1983. Mike earned his BS in Marketing and Management at Jones College in Jacksonville, Florida.
Mike met and married his wife Patricia in Brooklyn, New York, and they have been married 50 years with two children (Capt. Louis "Murph" III, USN, an Aero Space Engineering Duty Officer and Naval Test Pilot; and Patricia Kathryn an LCSW and mental health counselor). The Bornos have called the Beaches home since 1973.
After retiring from the US Navy, Mike worked at Jacksonville Shipyards, Inc., Advanced Technology, Inc. (waste water and Nuclear Power Plants, respectively), and then Fleet Ordnance and Hydraulics, Inc. in Atlantic Beach. Mike retired at the age of 62.
Mike has been involved with the City of Atlantic Beach over the last several years, chairing review committees when appointed to do such by the past Mayors and Commissioners. Mike was appointed to the City Commission on 4/14/97 to fill the un-expired term of Commissioner Tim Reed and then was elected to fill the remaining two years of that term on 10/11/97. Mike was re-elected on 11/2/99 to a four-year term ending 11/03. Mike was again re-elected on 10/4/05 and took his oath on 11/1/05 to serve a four-year term as Commissioner. Mike was most elected to serve a two-year term as the Mayor, and took his oath on 11/9/09.
Mike is very involved in his neighborhood homeowner association, as well as his church, St. Paul's-by-the-Sea Episcopal.
Mike's objectives include maintaining the quality of life here at the Beaches and establishing and keeping current a long-range plan (Personnel, Safety Protection, Infrastructure, Environment and Administration) for the welfare of all our citizens. All the above factors influence Mike's decisions on City Government matters. Mike is always available.
