The City of Atlantic Beach is asking that the City of Jacksonville partner on initiatives to promote Hanna Park, including but not limited to military access, as a means to make public beaches more accessible.
In a resolution unanimously adopted Monday, the Atlantic Beach City Commission says that reduced fees or free access, signage that promotes the park throughout the three beach cities, and the addition of one or more bicycle-pedestrian access gates along Mayport Road in Jacksonville would be helpful to residents and visitors, alike.
The requests comes amid increased traffic, lack of sufficient parking, and maintenance costs that impact Duval County’s three beach communities. It also comes before the Jacksonville City Council considers adopting a pilot project with reduce admission fees to Hanna and Huguenot Memorial parks,
