It's Military Appreciation Month

Honoring our Sailors and Troops During Military Appreciation Month

Small business owners, hooyah! And hooah! And oorah! Help your customers honor military soldiers and veterans. Culminating with Memorial Day, the month of May is National Military Appreciation Month. Take this opportunity to honor the brave men and women who have served and are currently in active service. Here are some of the popular ideas out there for starting your organization’s humble salute this month.

Say ‘Thank You’ on Marquees and Other Signs

One such message is: “It’s Military Appreciation Month: Thank you for your service and sacrifice!”

Please take a picture and send it to us at and we’ll share it on social media!

 Decorate Accordingly

Just by seeing patriotic decor in your business location customers are not only reminded of the occasion, but also of the men and women of the military. Throughout the month of May, have an American flag prominently on display in your shop. Many businesses go so far as offering a themed product, like a red-white-and-blue dessert, for the occasion. For inspiration, look around for what others in your industry have done before. You can probably come up with a better idea for this year!

Offer a Military Discount

It’s easy enough to make a reality — decide on the rate of discount that’s feasible for your business and the validity period, and once decided, complete any required paperwork, inform your staff and put up signs announcing the discount.

Send Care Packages

Military families in your community might like to send care packages to their loved ones who’ve been deployed. Why not help them out with one? Whether you’re helping customers to send packages to their loved ones or to complete strangers in the military, your efforts are sure to remind them that they are much appreciated for their heroism.

Promote and Attend Patriotic Events

Two events are on tap during Military Appreciation Month in Atlantic Beach:

  • The annual memorial ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the tragic 1987 attack of the USS Stark will be held at 10 a.m. May 17 at Beaches Veterans Memorial Park. The park is at 1 W. First St. in Atlantic Beach, just off Atlantic Boulevard and Mayport Road.
  • The annual Memorial Day ceremony in Atlantic Beach will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 31, at Beaches Veterans Memorial Park.
