Mayor's message to residents before Hurricane Dorian

September 2, 2019

Dear friends and neighbors:

As evacuations are underway in Zones A and B throughout Duval County and the beaches, I write in hopes that you have heeded warnings and made your preparations for the impacts of Hurricane Dorian. This storm is the biggest Category 5 hurricane ever to approach the Eastern Seaboard. Still, we know it is frustrating that so much remains unknown.

Please know that your safety is paramount to us, and all of our actions have been aligned with that goal. Our staff has done all we can to be ready, and we will do everything within our power to respond during and after the storm as necessary. Right now, we are all public safety personnel, and I am very confident in our team.

I am grateful that the three beach cities are united in supporting our one great beaches community. I am also grateful that myriad resources are available to us from Duval County and beyond, if and when we need them.

In the days to come, please know that I will have all of you in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you are not alone, but, if you are, please reach out to someone for help. Be kind to your loved ones, friends, neighbors, all children, pets, and anyone in need. And pray for those who are impacted, wherever and whoever they are. Have faith that we will weather this storm and get back to our lives soon enough. Together.

EllenGlasserMug2017It remains my high honor to serve you.
