Investigations

The Criminal Investigations Division is comprised of two units: General Investigations Unit and Crime Suppression Unit. This division is responsible for all investigations of crimes against persons and property. Detectives in this division follow-up investigations of reported offenses such as violent crimes, fraud, arson, and property crimes.

A criminal investigation has been defined as a lawful search for people and things to reconstruct the circumstances of an illegal act, apprehend or determine the guilty party, and aid in the state's prosecution of the offender. Criminal investigators identify and arrest suspects, testify in court, return stolen property, and work with victims in resolving their cases.
