Cross-Connection Control Requirements
A cross-connection is any physical arrangement that could result in non-potable water entering the City's public water system. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the City Code have stringent cross-connection requirements to protect the City's water system.
All commercial facilities must be protected with backflow preventers to keep any potential contaminants from flowing back into the public water supply if water pressure should drop.
In addition, residential customers must provide backflow preventers on their water service if they have irrigation systems, or if they have private wells on their property.
