General Investigations Unit

The detectives assigned to the General Investigations Unit (GIU) conduct investigations on a wide range of crimes, including robbery, assaults, sex crimes, domestic violence, theft, burglary, fraud, identity theft, and vandalism.

GIU detectives spend many hours following up on information, pursuing leads, conducting interviews, and solving crimes. They file cases against criminals and work in close cooperation with the State Attorney's office for successful prosecution.

Our GIU detectives also complete crime scene investigations. They are in charge of securing the crime scene and reconstructing the crime scene. They also process the crime scene which includes collecting, preserving, and analyzing evidence.

The GIU is supervised by Acting Sergeant Carl Johnston.

If you have any questions regarding an investigation, please contact our GIU unit at 904-247-5859.
