Lost Pet Information

If You Have Lost a Pet

If your pet is microchipped or wearing an ID tag with your current phone number, we will call you. Please tag and chip your animals to ensure a quick return home.

If you think we may have your pet, please contact Animal Control at 904-247-5866. We hold stray animals that aren’t chipped or wearing a collar for 3 days. If space permits, we may hold an animal longer; however, we will not hold stray animals for more than 7 days. Please bring proof of ownership and a picture ID when reclaiming your pet. Unclaimed animals will be transferred to Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services, sent to an approved rescue group, and/or put up for adoption.

Sometimes animals stray across city boundaries. If we don’t have your pet, please check with Neptune Beach Animal Control at 904-270-2410, Jacksonville Beach Animal Control at 904-247-6195 and Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services.

If You Have Found an Animal

Please be a good Samaritan and help out a lost animal. Call the Animal Control authority for the area the animal is in and show that animal the same kindness that you’d hope someone would give your pet if it were lost.

If you call Animal Control at 904-247-5866 about a stray, we will pick up the animal as soon as we can. Please note that emergencies such as animals in immediate danger or animal bites/attacks that have just occurred should be reported to the police department non-emergency number at 904-247-5859.

If you bring a lost animal to the shelter, we will keep the animal safely for a minimum of 3 days. We will do our best to reunite the animal with its owner. Unclaimed animals will be transferred to Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services, sent to an approved rescue group, and/or put up for adoption.
